WELCOME HOME

Our trip was fantastic. I’m starting to sort through all my pictures (not quite a billion, more like 500) and thoughts, there’s so much to tell! I’ll be posting lots of little individual posts all about Paris over the next couple weeks sprinkled in with my regular postings.

One of the nicest things was knowing that everything was in such great hands while we were away. Our lovely neighbours kept an eye on our house and picked up our mail. (and then delivered it upon our arrival all sweetly bundled up) Maisy stayed with Debbie and apparently charmed her entire family. Classes were taught by Reva, Johanna, Erin and Kristiann. While my special ‘workroom girls’ – Debbie, Jerisse and Ayalah kept the show running smoothly at the shop.

It’s amazing to be back home.

INTRODUCING : MAISY

We just got back from Paris and amidst doing tons of laundry and trying to get back on track I wanted to post quickly about my favourite dog in the world. Monday was Maisy’s fourth birthday!

I thought I’d share some puppy photos. The top photo is the first photo I ever saw of her, in the background you can see her brothers and her mother’s tail.

I asked Maisy a few questions and here’s what she had to say…

What’s your background?

Maisy : I was born up near Ottawa in a pound near Almonte. My mom was part Collie and part Walker Hound. I never met my dad, so part of me is a mystery. It’s fun to hear what people think I am though. I was the only girl with about four brothers. I wish I knew where they went. I’d love to see them again.

What are some of your favourite things?

Maisy : I really like sandwiches, resting my head on the front window ledge of the shop, raspberries, all my friends at the workroom, running in the park, stuffed animals (especially my new beaver!), sleeping on the couch, lying in the sun, going to Home Hardware, finding something good to eat in the garbage and having a bone in the backyard.

What don’t you like?

Maisy : I really don’t like dogs that wear clothes, strangers who lurk in the doorway, baths, medicine of any kind and all the cats in our neighborhood.

Do you have any favourite tricks that you do?

Maisy : The usual. I’ll shake a paw (left & right), sit and lie down, especially if there are treats involved. I can also high five you with my nose and I know how to close the door when I come in from the backyard. I’m trying to learn to cut fabric, but it’s not that easy!

Now that you’re four years old, what’s next?

Maisy : Things are pretty great. I work customer service and security full time at the workroom, but I’m hoping to cut back on my hours for the summer and spend more time running around the park.

OFF TO PARIS

I just wanted to say ‘have a good week’! We’re leaving this afternoon for Paris and we’ll be back next Tuesday. Thank you to everyone who has given me so many wonderful suggestions. I’m writing them all down in my Paris City Guide Moleskine. (I got this idea from Jeska) My camera is all charged up and I somehow managed to finish my very secure (hopefully from pickpockets) tote bag. I will have a billion photos to show you when we get back.

You might catch a tweet or two from me while we’re gone, but mostly I’m trying my best to be ‘unplugged’ for the week and eat as many macarons as I possibly can. Would anyone like to wager on just how many I can consume in 7 days?

I kinda don’t want to tell you, in case it’s all gone before I get back, but we’re expecting a shipment of Heather Ross’ Far Far Away collection this week. It’s made of that lovely double gauze cotton that is so nice to make clothing with. Yes, you can make a dress out of unicorns!

This sweet handbound notebook was given to me by Melodie using Kokka’s Eiffel Tower fabric. It’s so adorable, I don’t know if I’ll be able to use it, but I promised I would.

I can’t believe I’m actually going on vacation!

GARDEN PARTY

Hi, it’s June! Summer is just racing towards us faster than I can believe.

To celebrate the very first day of summer, City of Craft and the workroom are presenting the Garden Party Trunk Show on Sunday June 21, Noon – 5pm. As usual we have an enticing crew of vendors who will dazzle you with their wares (both handmade & vintage). I hope you will mark your calendars!

Also, two of the workroom’s friends – Sarah & Shiralee were featured in an article in the Globe and Mail on the weekend about handmade weddings. I was really excited to see photos from both of their magical-looking weddings that they added special handmade touches to. (including fabrics from the workroom!)

The article also shares some great resources and ideas, but mostly i just LOVE looking at photos of weddings. This and this are a couple of my favs. Do you have favourite wedding photos? Perhaps your own? Comment here with a link, so that I can spy on more people’s weddings!

MAKE GOOD : CRAFTS + LIFE

Lucky me! I actually won a giveaway a couple weeks ago from Fieldguided. I was so excited to win these Make Good craft books, as I’ve been eying them all around the internet wondering how I could get my hands on them.

The Make Good series translates Japanese craft books into English. What a brilliant idea!

The books are full of lovely ideas and I’ve marked many for future projects. I really really want to make some fruit & vegetable bags and I also like the wastebasket cover. Thanks, Anabela for such a great giveaway!
