3 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

the workroom... in the beginning

This week marks the three year anniversary for the workroom!! I can’t believe how time flies. I thought I’d share some photos from when I first got the keys to 1340 Queen Street West. How strange to see the space so empty, when now it is so full! The entire space got a painting makeover, as you can see. Somehow, I just couldn’t live with the navy blue ceiling or burgandy store front!

I honestly can’t imagine doing anything else and I feel really lucky to be a part of your lives. Thank you for making the workroom more vibrant than I could have ever imagined it to be!

Tuesday night we had our annual anniversary party at the shop. What fun to see so many of you come out to celebrate! I gave away some prizes that night, including a lovely prize from Soak. Thank you, Jacqueline for the awesome donation.

For those of you who were not able to attend, I wanted to do a giveaway here on the blog. I’ve got two $50 class gift cards to raffle off!! To enter, simply leave a comment on this post sharing a memory you might have of the workroom…. the first time you discovered us, your first class, your favourite thing you made/purchased here… The contest will close Sunday October 17, midnight (EST). This giveaway is for anyone in the Toronto area who would be able to attend a class at the workroom, the gift cards will have no cash value. Anyone who won a prize at the party on Tuesday, is not eligible to win again. (just to be fair!) I will draw two names randomly on Monday and announce the winners.

Thank you for the craftiest three years ever! xoxo

HAPPY HOMEMADE VOL. 3

Happy Homemade Vol. 3
ISBN 9784579112470
purchased from Pomadour’s Craft Cafe

I went to Quilt Market in Houston, Texas over the weekend. It was both fun and exhausting looking at fabric and quilts for two days straight. I have lots to tell, but I haven’t even downloaded the photos off my camera yet. Soon.

In the meantime, I wanted to share my latest etsy purchase. I didn’t realize there were more volumes in the Happy Homemade series until Marilou brought her copy to the Japanese Dress Book class at the workroom. Of course, I had to have it for my collection. They’ve broken the book down into sections, showing variations on a basic style for each one. More and more, I’m wanting to customize parts of these patterns, so this layout is very helpful for mix and matching different pieces. ‘C-1′ basic is my favourite.

p.s. Today is the workroom‘s two year anniversary! Hooray! It’s also my birthday, my parents’ anniversary and Liz, Ashley & Esther’s birthday!

A YEAR LATER

I’ve been looking back at photos of the shop over the last year, I thought you might like to see how much things have changed since I first opened up last fall. In the beginning there were just four cubes of fabric shelving that were quite sparse. Look at how much the fabric collection has taken over in the last year! Most days, I wish there was even more space for more fabric. I suppose it’s good to have some limits, but don’t be surprised if you see some more shelving and more fabric soon. I can’t help myself.

I finally got some good photos of dress 13. In all the hectic-ness of the anniversary party, I didn’t get any suitable photos that showed off the pattern. I know I keep saying so, but it’s coming up soon!

THANKING YOU!

This week the workroom turned one. Actually, today (October 17) is the day I opened to the public last year and made my first sale… to Johanna, the workroom’s quilting instructor. Thank you for coming by that day and buying some fabric from me, Johanna. I was so nervous cutting fabric for the first time! It was actually almost two weeks before I made my next sale. That was a bit nerve wracking.

Tuesday night was the anniversary party and I was just so overwhelmed at how many of you dropped by to say hi and celebrate this special occasion. I was even more overwhelmed by the fact that so many of you brought sweet gifts and beautiful cards! It will take me a few more days to send each of you my personal thanks, so I wanted to make sure you knew that it meant so much to me that you were there. Your thoughtful gifts and words remind me what a beautiful and vibrant crafting community the workroom supports. the workroom exists for you and because of you.

Thank you!
