SIMPLICITY 2226 : GREY POLKA DOT

Simplicity 2226 : Skirt
Grey Polka Dot : Habitat collection by Jay McCarroll

I’ve been in the mood for full skirts recently, so I took a trip to Fabricland to scout out some patterns that they had there. I didn’t even look at anything else, I just went straight for the patterns. It is so crazy in there! I picked out a few Simplicity patterns to make for the summer. This skirt and a couple Simplicity patterns (this one & this one) by Cynthia Rowley.

As soon as this grey polka dot fabric came in for the Habitat line, I made sure I got some. A few of the prints sold out within a couple days and this was one of them. I have grown to really appreciate a good polka dot thanks to Celine.

This pattern is one of their Learn to Sew patterns and I found it very easy to work with. I love this style of pocket and I definitely want to include this in future projects. There were belt loops and a tie with this skirt, but I omitted them from my version. I made a size 8 and I find it a bit loose. It still fits, but sits lower on my hips than I’d like it to. I’m going to make the skirt again but will definitely do a size 6 next time.

This skirt is so comfy to wear. One of the reasons I love dresses so much is that the dress is a complete outfit. With a skirt, you need a top to go with it. Colette just posted a free tank top pattern that I’m going to make this weekend.

  1. Oh, love it! Where were you two nights ago when I tried to make a skirt to wear to convocation today and it turned out a disaster?! Maybe I should have actually used a pattern instead of just trying to wing it 😉

Definitely going to have to check out those patters since I absolutely adore skirts!

  2. I love your skirt! And Habitat is one of favorite lines, so this is perfect. Would this be too hard for a beginner garment sewer?

  3. I have that second Cynthia Rowley pattern too, the one with the headbands….of course I’ve never gotten close to starting it. Now I’ll just have to wait until I see you’re lovely creation to get inspired!

    I love the skirt!

  4. Good call omitting the belt and tie. I have this pattern and did the same…sorry pattern, but the belt and tie are too much extra sewing for too much ugliness.

  5. i love grey with anything, but especially with popsicle-colored polka dots! the skirt looks like a great everyday piece.

  6. love this so much, although I think I say that about everything you make. 🙂 I just pulled that same fabric from my stash last night, for a quilt though, but maybe I’ll think twice about that. Clothing seems to be all I want to really sew right now.

  7. I love it! I picked up some chambray at a thrift store today and that pattern would be perfect. I’ll have to give it a try, esp. if it’s more of a simple pattern.

  8. You never cease to amaze me! I am so inspired by your blog. I actually just made my first shirt this weekend (well, my first piece of clothing that actually fits and looks like the picture on the pattern!) and I swear I took 2 breaks during the process to get some of your “i can do this” sewing vibe from your blog! So…thanks!

  9. This is the darn cutest skirt ever! Your photo styling is amazing as well! I’m always so inspired to see what people are making with my line! Great job and happy sewing!!!!

  10. OOOH! Pretty!!! I love the skirt, but the photos in the post are beautiful too – I love the one with your hand and delicate bracelet on the pocket.

  11. Thanks for posting the pattern number. After I saw you in this at the shop I couldn’t stop thinking about how damn cute it was!!

Thanks as always for the inspiration.

  12. I wish I got some of this fabric while you still had it! I need to come by more often obviously!
so glad you are filling the void of polkadots in toronto! And you always have the cutest ones too!
