WISH LIST

Happy Monday! Firstly, I have to thank you for all your lovely comments on my 3 Year Anniversary post. I was so touched to read your thoughts and memories. I can promise you there lots more exciting things to come to the workroom over the NEXT three years (and more!) and the reason we do it, is for you. I drew two random numbers this morning for the $50 class gift card prizes and the winners are #36 – Pam B and #29 Loren K!!

Next, I wanted to tell you about something new we’re starting at the workroom. A crafty gift registry! Most of you will be spending the next few months thoughtfully hand making gifts for the people you love. Make it easy for your friends and family to buy you the perfect thing by filling out one of our Wish List cards. We will keep your card on file and assist anyone looking to buy you something from the shop. We will also cross off items that have been purchased for you to avoid double gifts. Feel free to take a few extra cards, if you’d like to hand some out directly or casually post one on your fridge door. (hint hint!) The registry is not just for the holidays, this is a year-round registry – birthdays, weddings, Valentine’s Day, National S’mores Day, etc. Purchases from your Wish List can be made over the phone to make it even more convenient.

the workroom Wish List was created from your suggestions and comments. It’s a great idea, so thank you for asking for it! We think you’ll have a lot of fun filling out some dream gifts from the shop.

3 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

This week marks the three year anniversary for the workroom!! I can’t believe how time flies. I thought I’d share some photos from when I first got the keys to 1340 Queen Street West. How strange to see the space so empty, when now it is so full! The entire space got a painting makeover, as you can see. Somehow, I just couldn’t live with the navy blue ceiling or burgandy store front!

I honestly can’t imagine doing anything else and I feel really lucky to be a part of your lives. Thank you for making the workroom more vibrant than I could have ever imagined it to be!

Tuesday night we had our annual anniversary party at the shop. What fun to see so many of you come out to celebrate! I gave away some prizes that night, including a lovely prize from Soak. Thank you, Jacqueline for the awesome donation.

For those of you who were not able to attend, I wanted to do a giveaway here on the blog. I’ve got two $50 class gift cards to raffle off!! To enter, simply leave a comment on this post sharing a memory you might have of the workroom…. the first time you discovered us, your first class, your favourite thing you made/purchased here… The contest will close Sunday October 17, midnight (EST). This giveaway is for anyone in the Toronto area who would be able to attend a class at the workroom, the gift cards will have no cash value. Anyone who won a prize at the party on Tuesday, is not eligible to win again. (just to be fair!) I will draw two names randomly on Monday and announce the winners.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Right about this time of the year, things always seem a bit blurry to me. I must admit I’m looking forward to a few days off, lots of holiday eating and sneaking in as much sewing as possible to finish off gifts that haven’t quite gotten done yet!

Yesterday’s giveaway winner was comment #7, Jean! Her comment was, “Oooo the fabric definitely! My favourite holiday food is nice a juicy roasted goose with super crispy skin. I love the anticipation of it while it’s roasting and how the house slowly begins to fill with the aromas from the roast! Mmmmm I’m hungry now!”

I really want to thank each of you for commenting over the last few days. It’s so lovely to hear from you. I hope you get all the things on your crafty wish lists and have a super holiday!

ROSALYN'S CRAFTY WISH LIST

I wish I had a metre of Liberty for each of you sweet friends! Yesterday’s winner was comment #26 from Jennifer Ashley who said, “The Mirabelle is gorgeous – I would make a little bonnet and perhaps a tooth fairy pillow from the remnants for my Granddaughter Isabella.” A Liberty bonnet?!! I hope I get to see a photo when its done.

Last, but never least is Rosalyn‘s Crafty Wish List…

The tiny floral print from the new French General ‘Rouenneries‘ collection colour 14 because there’s only a little bit left and it’s super cuteeeeeee. A lil’ nostalgic, it reminded me of cabbage patch clothing my mom made me, right when I saw it!
A long Omnigrid ruler because 6″ x 12″ isn’t long enough. I can also use it for the quilt I need to work on
the 2nd tiniest pompom makers (35mm x 45mm) because I want to make tails for stuffed animal bums

For me the food is one of the best parts of the holidays, it’s the best excuse to eat things like baked brie. (which is my favourite holiday food) Since I have so much more crafting to do, I’m trying to focus on the delicious rewards to come rather than stressing out.

I got lots of brilliant gift ideas from your comments yesterday. Yesterday’s winner was comment #11 from Lark. She said, “I plan to make a few sets of bias-trimmed placemats & napkins with funky fun fabrics similar to the ones on Purl Bee, maybe with hand-stitching. Also, a canning jar pincushion filled with a notions like few buttons & thread spools for my new-to-sewing daughter”

Bernina Aurora 440 QE – because it’s wonderful! and it makes sewing effortless.
Pattern Drafting : The Skirt (class at the workroom) – I want to take this class because I dream about it being the first step I take in my new life as a master maker of beautiful clothes.
Liberty of London fabric – maybe just a fat quarter or two. For a couple of sweet projects and some textile design inspiration

I’m feeling the holiday crunch as I try to start/finish off holiday gifts in the next couple days.

Thank you for leaving all your wish lists over the weekend! It’s fun to hear from you, to read what everyone wants and to see some of the same things repeated over and over. Felting for Baby by Saori Yamazaki – Felting is something that I would love to try in the new year. This book is beautifully styled. And small projects for friends with babies would be the perfect introduction
Anna Maria Horner Study Hall Skirt Pattern – This skirt looks great with contrasting bold prints
A Liberty print like My Little Star or Little Mari to make either a dress shirt or a summer dress. I can’t decide.
Reliable Iron – I got one for my mother years ago, but I am still using my old leaky iron.

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since Jen & Laural opened up goodEGG Industries. Their online shop features the work of emerging and outstanding Canadian designers and makers. As part of the celebrations, they have asked me to host a super exciting giveaway for make something readers. I’m totally honoured and a bit jealous! I just know you’re going to love this prize!

One lucky commenter will win a Lace print t-shirt of their choice from one of their newest designers, Hand and Shadow. The delicate Victorian lace collar design is printed with bleach ink or dark pigment on an American Apparel T-shirt. MAKE GOOD : CRAFTS + LIFE

Lucky me! I actually won a giveaway a couple weeks ago from Fieldguided. I was so excited to win these Make Good craft books, as I’ve been eying them all around the internet wondering how I could get my hands on them.

The Make Good series translates Japanese craft books into English. What a brilliant idea!

The books are full of lovely ideas and I’ve marked many for future projects. I really really want to make some fruit & vegetable bags and I also like the wastebasket cover. Thanks, Anabela for such a great giveaway!
