IPHONE 365

iphone 365 : January

This will be my third year doing Project 365. Everyday, I make sure that I take at least one photo. A big part of the challenge last year was keeping up with organizing and posting my photos. I still have a few months of photos to post for 2011!

This year, I’m working on two 365 projects. One with my DSLR camera and one with my iphone. The iphone 365 is so easy to do, especially because there is an app for it! Project 365 makes it super easy to organize your 365 photos as you go along. At the end of the month you can download the collage of all your photos. I love it.

If you’re on Instagram (I am make_something on Instagram), you may have noticed people posting photos all month with the hashtag #janphotoaday. Chantelle created a fun challenge that gives you a theme to use everyday. Happily she will be doing a new challenge each month. Here is February’s challenge. Having the daily theme keeps things really interesting and I love seeing everyone’s version of the same idea.

p.s. I just added ANOTHER photo challenge to my roster. This one is #febphotoskill. Check out the daily details here. You would think I had nothing to do all day, but these little challenges make me feel creative in the midst of my busy work days!

This year I’ve finally started taking more people photos. They need work and I’m still really shy about it, but it’s a start. I had a mission to photograph all of the workroom family and that has really helped. It’s just so much easier to take a photograph of a jar of jam!

Finally some more 365. I’m really having a summer of reflection, spending a lot of time looking back. I am constantly trying to make sure that I also don’t forget to be in the moment. Something with the moons and eclipses have been off for me in the last few months. So I am just trying to get through this funny time. I have high hopes for August and the fall, though!

You can see here that we were working on our online shop since March (and before). I can’t believe we started creating those floss palettes in March. It took so long to get it all together. This is the fun part now.

p.s. I really love looking at snowy photos in July.

I had some time over the long weekend to finally start organizing my 365 project for 2011. Wow, I fell very behind with the posting of these photos! It’s kinda fun to look back at the wintery first months of the year and see all the SNOW everywhere when right now I’m lying under my ceiling fan dreaming of ice cream and lemonade. (and ways to combine those two things)

One thing I love about 365 is the repetition and themes that evolve throughout the year. Looking back and seeing photos of the same thing or place from different perspectives is so fun. Just south of Bloor on Lansdowne I would pass by a building with bicycles all locked up to a railing in the snow every night on my walk home from work. I stopped on several occasions to shoot this spot even though it was usually pretty cold. (and also pretty late) I love the dramatic lighting, especially.

April 27, 2011 : vintage kimono patchwork table runner

I recently brought out one of my most favourite things I’ve ever made. It’s a table runner that I made in a class taught by Denyse Schmidt at Make in NYC. This was years and years ago, before the workroom was even a twinkle in my eye. Denyse supplied all the materials, so I ended up making something I never would have chosen for myself but I’m still (to this day) so in love with it. You can’t really see, but it is backed with a solid mustard fabric. Brilliant. I never would have created this on my own! It is such a gift to learn from others around you.

I think I also love that it reminds me to try something different.

March 15, 2011 : Spring haircut by Darrell Walsh

Hello! This is my first official 365 post of the year. Yep, I’ve got 73 photos I need to post to catch up for the year. But in case you thought I had abandoned the project, I wanted you to know I’m still doing my daily photo. One thing I’m trying to do with my 365 this year is to share my favourite local places and people.

Haircut day is something I look forward to. I’ve been seeing Darrell for 15+ years and he’s the best. Since we’ve been together so long, I don’t really have to tell him what to do and I always leave happy. Haircut day is also the only time my hair gets dolled up and this time he made it full of cute curls. Now I just need some cute spring tops & dress to go with my new hair!

Darrell is at Solo Bace if you’re looking for a spring pick-me-up.

Happy New Year! I spent the first day of the year organizing the last three months of my 365 project from 2010. YAY! I almost can’t believe I completed a full year of photos!

I am so excited that I have this record of 2010 and I’m going to continue the project for 2011. At the start of the project, it seemed pretty easy. I mean it takes only a second to take a photo, but some days it can be a real challenge to remember to do this. There were definitely many days where I looked at the clock at 10pm, 11pm, even 11:45pm and grabbed my camera and took a quick shot of something. Some days there was only one picture to choose from, some days there were dozens and it was hard to choose just one. Some days you think you know what your photo will be of and then it doesn’t happen.

I felt like I really improved my photography this year and I definitely want to continue that. My main goals for the project this year are 1. to avoid last minute photos as much as possible by making an effort to shoot earlier in the day, 2. to take more people shots (I find this so hard!) 3. try new photo techniques on a regular basis, 4. post my photos once a week.

It’s fun to look at all the pictures from the year together. Take a peek here!

It feels pretty good to have a fresh new year up ahead. I just took a peek at my new year’s post from last year and I’d say all of those goals are continuing into this year.

I’m looking forward to spending another year with you!

p.s. I have some fun new projects up my sleeve that will be revealed very soon.
